Magn WP Drap and Drop Upload for WordPress is a simple but useful plugin for WordPress that will help you save lot of time while uploading images to posts.

This plugin takes advantage of HTML5 upload features to support drag and drop image upload in WordPress New Post page. The autor (me) argues that using this plugin can make your blogging task more efficient in terms of time and save up to 90% if you take in mind that for uploading a single image you need to achieve a lot of single operations. With a drag and drop facility you just need two single steps:

Open the New Post page.

Drag an image to the admin area.

You can download this plugin from WordPress plugins directory.

I plan to add some SEO features later, like improving the alt title attribute or rename the filename on the fly.

If this plugin is helpful for you or you need any other feature to be added feel free to discuss it here under the comments.

The example above shows the pagination used in Aplicaciones, a site that lists the best applications on Internet. You can see WP-Paginate in action there, and evaluate if it is convenient for your blog.

In order to activate WP-Paginate, you need to replace your current Previous and Next links with the custom paginate function.

<?php if(function_exists('wp_paginate')) {
    wp_paginate();
} ?>

Also, it has support for comments so you can paginate your comments, too. This may be a good practice for these pages with lot of comments in terms of SEO.

When working with CloudFront and Amazon S3 Storage Service you usually move all the static stuff to the CDN in order to reduce the round trip time and offer a better experience for the user.

People recommend to use Amazon S3, but you should also consider using CloudFront if you really want to offer a better experience to the user, since CloudFront offers you a Content Distribution Network to deliver the content faster for any location around the world.

But the problem usually comes when we need to move our content to CDN and Amazon S3 without affecting SEO.

301 Redirect is used usually when you move URLs to a new domain or location. So we should follow the same idea for images, if you want to conserve your link and images currently indexed at Google Image Search.

After reviewing some htaccess tricks, I found this. And then I implemented the following rule to support the 301 Redirect for images under the wp-content folder. Actually for wp-content/uploads since I only want to redirect all images in the uploads folder, but not for themes. However, if you want to host your themes also in CDN you can do the same.

You can place the following rule in your current WordPress .htaccess file (as a custom rule at the end of the file will work).

# Redirect all images to CDN RewriteRule ^wp-content/uploads/(.*\.(png|gif|bmp|jpg))$ http://cdn.netvivs.com/wp-content/uploads/$1 [R=301,L]

Of course you need to replace your domain here in the snippet.

This solution helps you telling Google that you want to redirect 301 your images to the CDN inside WordPress uploads folder.

If you get lot of traffic to your blog and site or Amazon S3 is becoming expensive for you, you can try alternated CDN option like MaxCDN, which may offer a different fee structure based on space and GB instead of traffic.

if you want to add a Sidebar to a Word Press theme, then you can do it simply. This article from blogohblog explains clearly how to add a second sidebar to your theme. The process is simple, just need to edit your functions.php file and add the quantity of sidebars that you want to register.

Your functions.php file will begin like this:

<?php
if ( function_exists(‘register_sidebar’) )
    //register_sidebar();
    register_sidebars(2);
?>

Then, you just need to place the dynamic sidebar call where you want the new sidebar (the second sidebar in the theme). For example:

<div>
<ul>
<?php if ( function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’) && dynamic_sidebar(2) ) : else : ?>
<?php endif; ?>
</ul>
</div>

Finally, edit your widgets and you’ll see that you have space for a second sidebar. You can see an example on the single page created at Tours Cuzco.
